Jacques van Leeuwen is a pianist and composer who moves fluidly along the boundary between composition and improvisation—between the familiar and the unknown. Grounded in a strong classical background and a deep-seated passion for jazz, he approaches every live performance as a fresh encounter: with the music itself, with the listener, and with whatever emerges in that precise moment.
His music unfolds organically, rooted in a thought, a feeling, a memory, or a new perspective. Jacques’ compositions are highly accessible, defined by powerful melodies and compelling harmonies. Listening to his solo playing means stepping into a sonic world where vulnerability, stillness, hope, melancholy, and connection take center stage. The result is an intimate, cinematic experience that draws the listener in from the very first note.
He has a broad interest for different kinds of jazz projects and styles. From bebop, contemporary Nordic jazz till fusion. He is inspired by pianists Keith Jarret, Shai Maestro, Esbjorn Svensson, Kenny Barron, Karel Boehlee amongst others.
